"Cash" has been used as a stud dog in our program several times for the simple reason that he produces great looking, trainable puppies that our families love. He is owned by a great friend of mine (Danny Wennekamp of Ridgetop Retrievers, also the breeder of our dog "Shelby"). Danny will be the first to tell you that Cash is a phenomenal house and family dog, and is 100% amateur trained by Danny. Cash earned his Hunting Retriever Champion title by age 2 and is Danny's best wild pheasant dog in his home state of Iowa. When you picture a great looking, well built chocolate Labrador Retriever, Cash is exactly what comes to mind. He is a hunt all day, lay by the fire at night kind of dog and we have been thrilled with his offspring.

Cricket is being leased by Southfork Retrievers to do this breeding. Cricket is owned by Jason Heffelmier of Contender Retrievers. Cricket's littermate sister "Stevie" was one of my favorite young puppies I had ever owned. She was unfortuantely bitten by an adult dog that resulted in her eye being damaged and ending her possible career as a hunt test or field trial competitor. She was placed into a loving home that simply wanted an active companion and pheasant hunting partner so she is thriving. This was our opportunity to bring these genetics back to Southfork. Cricket, much like Stevie has an outstanding temperament and is highly intelligent. She lives on the farm with Jason and his family, and is a core guide dog in their pheasant preserve operation. Cricket is barely 50 pounds, so her compact size makes her an ideal boat mate in the marsh or shotgun rider.

This litter should produce some excellent looking puppies that will not be overly large dogs. Males should be around 65lbs and females 50-55lbs. Both black and chocolate pups are expected, some of which may be tri-factored for color. Pups due around 6/11 and go home around 8/6 (week of).
